countries besides the U.K. (Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, etc.) to get a flavor for the way the people feel toward their royalty.  In those countries, the people seem much more affectionate and closer toward their kings/queens than the British do toward the British monarchy,  there is none of the morbid curiosity over pregnancies and the paparazzi don't follow the royals around. . Rather, royal christenings are celebrated by the entire communities in their churches and the public is invited.   Is it because the other royal families present themselves to be more "human" and warmer toward their subjects? They don't seem to mind being touched and loved by their countrymen.   I would think their standing in their countries is just as regal as that of Queen Elizabeth.  Maybe it's because their countries aren't as wealthy and don't have all of the "trappings" of multiple palaces, crowns, royal coaches, etc.

It happened since the World Wars, the royal families in continental Europe were terrified to have their monarchy abolished or worse like Austria, Prussia, Italy, Serbia, Russia, Yugoslavia, Romania etc. they believed if they had a better interaction and communication with the people and seem more "human" or "likeable", then their wouldn't really be a problem to get rid of them. Sweden, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain etc all the other European monarchies have always been so affectionate to their people, it's reassuring because it shows us that they are human at the end if the day despite their birth and position. Queen Margrethe of Denmark is called "Queen Daisy" because if her happy-go-lucky personality and her bright smile. Queen Sofia of Spain and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands are best friends and have been since the 60s! All the Crown Princely couples of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Netherlands are really close and have very affectionate relationships with each other (Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is godmother to Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands child, one of Frederick and Mary of Denmark's child, and one of Haakon and Mette-Marit of Norways child). I really wish the British Royal Family were as open minded and genuinely caring as the other monarchies, during the Dutch Royal Wedding, Princess Maxima shed a tear! So something is forbidden to do in a British Royal Wedding

Not sure that I understand what you mean. The Swedish royal family has several palaces, royal coaches etc, so that is not the reason.

I think it's more of a cultural thing. We in Sweden are rather relaxed towards all "celebrities". King or not doesn't matter.

Blame it on the icy touch of Queen Mary's  dead hand (mortmain).  While other Royal Houses were acknowledging the 20th Century, her otherwise admirable sense of duty, fearful of any change, and with the awful example of King Edward VIII  always a reminder, chilled the House of Windsor, perhaps permanently. While freezing is an effective preservative, without eventual defrosting even the tastiest dish will remain just a block of ice.

My dear Ann, there are regal standards to uphold and we British shall uphold them, even if the Johnny Foreigner royalties don't. You know, the Swedish, Danish, Dutch and Spanish monarchies are so tawdry and low-rent, they are not even worth a moment's thought.

She's been on the throne for 60 years or sometng. She is elderly and has been to more suitable events than lets ever imagine. i'd imagine that maximum folk understand and appreciate her slowing down theses days.

Other royals don't put themselves so far above the people they reign over...they are warmer, and more genuine in public.
