Advice needed from Aspergers /Autism parents in UK please.?

I have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. Son was diagnosed as severely autistic at age 2 and 1 of my daughters has always been a bit "quirky". Late talker (age 2) and late walker (age 3). I am now concerned as she gets older (she is now 8) she struggles terribly in social situations, has tantrums about silly little things, says she has no friends and is quite generally unhappy unless she is watching her favourite programme on tv, repeatedly. She is a whizz at maths but not english, handwriting is poor, low muscle tone and diagnosed with hypermobility at age 3. Should I be taking her for a diagnosis or am I just seeing her as different from her sisters because of my son. I don't want to scare her by trying to "find" a problem but at the same time don't want to hinder her by missing one either, any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Have you checked out dyspraxia and/or dyslexia?

Both of them share aspects with the Autism spectrum, and dyspraxia can be seen with hypermobility quite regularly. Read into them and if anything starts ringing bells get her tested, around 8 is the standard age for these things to be picked up on.

Source(s): Diagnosed, Dyspraxic at 7, Dyslexic at 19 and hypermobile at 22.

Hi, I feel your pain and worry as my son too was diagnosed with autism.. Although don't know where he is on the spectrum. Regarding your daughter, it doesn't sound enough to be classed as autism.. Does she have odd repetitive movement patterns..is she good at conversations etc. To put your mind at rest. Get her to be evaluated.. Although it would be better if she gets assessed in her school, as they know her better.. Rather than a psychologist who will see your child for the first time. Good luck

Even if you think that she may just be quirky, I would suggest getting her evaluated.

Source(s): I'm autistic. I wasn't diagnosed until I was fifteen and, because of the late diagnosis, I regressed quite significantly. It's really important to at least get her evaluated, because if she is autistic the longer you wait, the more she will struggle.
