Is there a way to find out who reported you for benefit fraud?

Surely if you are reported for benefit fraud and are completely innocent this is slander and you should be told who has done it. I don't know who to trust anymore.

It is not slander if you have been reported for benefit fraud even if you are innocent. The motive and evidence of the person who made the report is important.

If people who mistakenly reported suspected criminal activity could be sued for slander then nobody would ever report any crime.

There would only be a case for slander if you have personally suffered loss as a result of a malicious statement. You would have to show that you have materially suffered by not getting ordinary things like credit or that you have had an official benefit withdrawn as a result of this report. It won't be enough for you to be just hurt, annoyed or even very angry.

If you can demonstrate to the authorities that you have suffered as a result of the report then they can investigate the motives of the person. If they are found to be malicious then legal action will be taken against the person at that point.

If the report was genuinely believed by the person, but based on mistaken evidence, then the authorities won't tell you who made it.

There is no way. I agree with you that in cases where there is no fraud the reporter should be identified. We need to change the law. Start a blog and contact your MP.
