Pup wants to play with cat?

I have a 4 1/2 month old Springer puppy which I adopted about three weeks ago. The resident cat, who is used to older dogs, is being constantly annoyed by the new pup. It is obvious that the pup just wants to play with the cat, but is too rough. The cat, therefore, is miserable. I use the command "OFF" when the pup tries to get at the cat, but for the most part, I'm ignored. It doesn't help that the cat sometimes baits the dog from high places. Any advice as to how to make this situation better for all of us?

Well I have 4 cats and 4 dogs that includes puppies at the moment and my cats love it. The dogs chase and rough house wit them all the time and the cats act like they hate it at times wit the hissing and trying to run away and somethimes the dang cats lay there while the dogs chew them up and harrass them. But the cats always come back for more. Id say as long as the cats not running and hiding evertime it sees the dog then the cat prolly really don't mind. I would maybe just allow spots for the cat to get away from the dog if it don't wanna deal wit it. Like I put a cat bed on top of my frig and the cats get up there to nap and I move my cat food bowel to the dyer and washer and they get up there to eat in peace. And then I put a cat door in my bedroom door, so they can go in there and the dogs can't. But if they chose to be elsewhere then them spots there fair game for the dogs. Lol

As long as your cat doesn't run away at the site of your dog than it should get better as your dog matures. The dog will not be as playful or rough and it seems that your cat is standing its ground. My dog and my cat used to have an interesting relationship. The cat and dog would sleep together and eat together, but if you use the command” get the cat then the dog would get the cat lol". The cat use to chase the dog if he was annoyed (this was so funny) and if the cat got really annoyed would just jump the fence and sit in the other side ( the cat could get over the fence and the dog couldn't) this would leave the dog barking at the cat for hours especially if it had caught a rat or something.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/OlhCJ

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.
