Change in Mexico's Democracy scores throughout history?

If you follow the link at the bottom, You can see Mexico from 1920 onward, and a representation

of its democracy score. If you cant, you can just go to the side of the graph and select mexico,

and democracy score, and over time. ANYWAY, I need to know why the score changes

in every spot that it does? Why it spiked or droped or remained the same for a substantial

amount of time.

It would really help me out because im having a lot of trouble with it :(.

Thanks alot guys!!! :)

They didn't do a good job of explaining that graph, did they?

The big drop in the late 1920s was the period of the Cristero revolt. President Obregon effectively tried to seize power and property from the Catholic Church, and there was a backlash from the people.

Through the 1930s until the early 1980s, Mexico was run by one party = the PRI. It didn't matter who you voted for - the PRI was going to win.

I can see why it trended up during the late 1980s and 1990s, because that was the time frame that the PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) yielded power and Mexico became a true multi-party democracy. From 1928 to the late 1980s, the PRI never lost an election - president, state governors, or senate.

    Sorry I wasn't more help.
