I need help with pdf files.?

I do an online newsletter, and the pdf files I send are way too big. Is there a way of making them smaller? I think the photos I include are the culprit. I use a Mac.

Update:

I use Mac OS 10.5.8

I use MIcrosoft Word to make pdf files.

    What OS X App do you use to create your PDF files? I use Works Pages ($$) OR Open Office 3 (free).

    And, when you add (Import) photos, what 'Size Option' do you use? You should be choosing the "Resize for Web" option, meaning 72 DPI and 256 colors, if available.
