Before major regattas and even saturday races there would be no drinking what soever. During each season we would never drink, particularly because we had training most days. However, there seem to be a very large time gap so i don't seem any harm in it. However, I highly suggest that you drink plenty of water the next few days, as most athletes understand the dehydrating and impairing affects of alcohol, it does remain within your system for quite some times. We have also been taught that if you drink following a training, you may as well not have done that session at all due to its affect upon your endurance, recovery, and strength. Really carb up over the next few days, organise your race plan, keep hydrated, and train up until the 14th and have a day of recovery. Do a proper warm up and push yourself and you will be fine, beat that sculler!

    good luck mate :)

Have you checked with your coach? Because you only drink a couple of times a year it''ll have more of an effect on you. The alcohol will affect your digestion and therefore crucial pre-race nutrition. It'll also mess with your metabolic pathways and so could slow you down - if you were weight lifting it'd definitely reduce what you could lift. Five days is a reasonable amount of time, but if I were you I wouldn't risk it! Just explain to your friends and stick to the soft drinks - you can still enjoy yourself. Good luck in your race! :) xx

Getting drunk only effects your performance when your drunk or when you have a hang over other than that youll do just fine as long as you dont let drinking or drugs take over your life which every one should try and not let happen. Be sure you around your parents if your in the US or itll be considered illegal. Only your parents can legally give you alcohol not your friends so be care full.

I guess it really depends on "how drunk" you mean. "In Moderation" alcohol is temporary in effect, but if you really go to far it can cause muscle aches and deteriorate muscle tissue, and you definitely don't want that. So just keep it down to 2 drinks.
