Cat is injured, HELP!?

We're kitty-sitting a cat (Meowers), and one of our cats attacked him while we weren't there. I wasn't able to have a good close look at the injury (for various reasons, the story's too long to tell) but his back left leg's fur seemed to be skinned and it's damp with blood. we've put him in his cat crate with a blanket, food, and water. *I'm sorry to say that we can't afford to pay vet bills*. Right now, we're letting him be since animals heal faster than humans, and as soon as our neighbor's back from vacation we're gonna have him take a look (he's a doctor). but is there anything else that we can do? he eats Kirkland Premium Source Maintenance Cat food, if that helps.

You put neosporin (or any cut healer) on the wound. Be very gentle about it. Then wrap the injured hind leg with gauze. (You know, that cloth you use) Then be sure to change (reapply) the neosporin at least daily. This will definitely cure it in a few days. Be patient and show it lots of love. The money situation is not so good, so I hope this helps. Good luck to you and Meowers!

if the cat got bite by an other cat it's very serious. i've had it happen to the same cat twice since he's an outdoor cat (not by choice) the first time i went to the vet and they did surgery on my cat removing the infected skin $$$$. the second time which was this summer, i decided to not bring him to the vet since i knew it would be lots of $. so i started putting cream, fucidin,on his wound. the cream i use is for people and it's prescribe but polysporin cream should do the same job. now i didn't realize a second bit mark on my cat so it became infected and it ends up becoming a huge abscess that bursts and it makes a gross hold in the cat. the minute i saw it i started putting the cream on the wound twice a day and i was lucky to get antibiotic pills through a pet organization so in the end my cat made it he did have a bald spot for a long time but he's good now.

i do recommend you purchase a good antibiotic cream, at the pharmacies to prevent the bacteria from the cats saliva from infecting the injured cat. put it on twice a day until the wound is closed. be sure to look good to get all the bite marks since it's very dangerous cat saliva. you could also take a bowl with 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of salt mix it and dip a clean cloth in it them either put the cloth on the wound or if the cat doesn't let you just squeeze the water/salt from the cloth on the wound.

I hate to say this, since you say you can't afford vet bills, but you'll either pay them now or later, since you're responsible for the injury sustained because of your pet attacking the visiting pet. The bigger concern is that the longer you wait to seek medical attention, the more likely the wounds will get infected. Not sure where you got the idea that animals don't need medical attention since they "heal faster", but that's just not true. Not only are they just as prone to infection, but they can become septic very quickly if a wound is allowed to fester without medical intervention. Also, an injured animal will try to lick the wound, introducing mouth bacteria to the area, increasing the likelihood of even more infection. The "skinned" appearance may be an injury known as "degloving" and it's not only very much at risk of infection, which can become systemic quickly, but is a very painful injury. It could also be that your kitty might have bitten and pulled out fur - still definitely painful and likely to become infected, especially if there are bite wounds - very infectious with kitties.

My best suggestion is to phone the owner (surely you got contact information for them when you agreed to care for their pet), ask if they can cover the vet costs with an agreement to pay them back as quickly as you can (since, again, it's your responsibility morally and legally for any injury inflicted in your home by one of your animals). It's just wrong to let that poor animal suffer without getting him medical attention.

I hope the injury isn't as severe as you describe and he can be cared for easily and at a reasonable cost. At the very least, you do need to examine the wound as best you can and contact a vet for proper wound cleaning instructions, if the wound can be cared for at home. God luck with him - I hope Meowers isn't seriously injured!

Clean the wound out with luke-warm water, don't use peroxide. And bandage it up good. I would call the vet to see if they recommend anything else.

Put Rubbing Alcohol on the scratches that will make the pain go away. I do that when shaving my face.
