What is the difference between a notebook and a laptop?

My daughter is going to college soon and I am wondering if a notebook or laptop would be better for her or if there is actually a big difference. Please put this in layman's terms as I am not great with understanding a lot of computer terms. I am just wondering which might be better in terms of school work..she has a phone that she uses for facebook and whatnot, so this is not important for her computer use. I was just looking around and thought the size of the notebook might be more convenient, but not sure if this is enough memory wise or if you can go on the internet for research with it or not. Like I said, I really do not know much about computers, so please be kind with your answers. Any info is greatly appreciated. (I just wanted to surprise her with this, so do not want to ask her).

A notebook and a laptop are the same thing. You may be confusing notebook with netbook. A netbook is smaller, lighter, has less ram, smaller hard drive, and no cd/dvd drive. The processor is slower, and they are generally used for internet, music, pictures. Netbooks are less expensive than notebooks. For school, a laptop(notebook), would probably be the better choice...

Notebook is just another name for a laptop. Laptops which have a screen size of 15.6 and upwards are called notebooks and laptops with screen size smaller than 15.6 inches are called netbooks.

For using the internet, watching movies, listing to music and for Microsoft office you dont need a fancy laptop, a $400 laptop will be fine for her.

A notebook is basically a minature laptop. Basically they have the same features and qualities, and are more convenient to carry around.

Notebook - smaller, lighter... Slower, less RAM/hard drive space

Laptop- more ram, faster, more Hard drive space, bulkier, heavier, more money

If I were you and for your daughters uses, bud, I would get a good notebook with a good amount of hard drive space.
