Why no word in French?
As far as I know in French the word for both beer and for ale is biere. But ale is made differently than beer and generally has a fuller taste. Why no word for ale in French?

that is a bit like asking why no English word for Calvados .. ale is not traditional in France, so you just use the English word.

Because generally in France ale is not served (unless you go to a specific beer cafe or something). So my guess would be it'd be called biere anglaise or simply ale.

In French they distinguish between "les lagers (les bières de fermentation basse)" ('bottom-fermented beers'), "les bières de fermentation haute" ('top-fermented beers') and "les lambics (les bières de fermentation spontanée)" ('spontaneous fermented beers'). Sometimes they call 'ale' "bière anglaise". In Belgium they use "une Pale ale" for a specific type of top-fermented beer. In fact, many top-fermented Belgian beers popular in France, like Trappist beers and Abbey beers, are ales.

In french they have the same word to describe this beverage : ale !!!
