Buddy opened his soon to be ex-wife's email...is it wrong? Read more...?

From his story, it sounds kind of stalker-ish, but he is going through a divorce, he found out his soon to be ex had been meeting people on match.com, so long story short, he knew the password to her email account, got on and got the password for match.com and messed with her profile. Is anything illegal or un cool if he knew passwords and password hints? It sounds like an uncool thing to do, but she is cheating on him, still.

I disagree w/ previous posters, it is still infidelity until those divorce papers are signed and everything is official. Keep your damm pants on until that happens.

I do agree that this is very bad and can certainly have legal ramifications, and she could use this against him in the divorce as well.

It is wrong. Regardless of who did what or why they are divorcing, both people should 'keep their nose clean' and behave until it is all over. The damage has already been done, the marriage is over, ride it out and let it go. In other words, grow up and act like an adult already.

They are going through a divorce, his wife is not "cheating on him." She now has the right to live her own life. Even if you have passwords and user names, that doesn't make it OK to go through someone's email and worse yet to alter the information in any of her accounts, whether online dating or anything else. It is certainly without a doubt "not cool" - it is highly unethical and dishonest. I can't say for sure that it is against the law, but hacking someone's account can be a police matter, even if the offender guessed the passwords. It could also be a civil matter for invasion of privacy. Your friend is wrong on many levels and needs to stop it.

Yes it is 'uncool' and it is illegal as its hacking.

Hacking doesnt only count if its a strangers account, if you use some ones password without their permission then its hacking and he could be sued.

If they are getting a divorce she is not cheating on him.

In a case like this, he should have taken the higher road, he can look, who could blame him for that... but he has no business messing with her profile. It definitely is not cool!!!

    That's crossing the line.

If they are divorcing its not cheating. The relationship is already in the grave.

You shouldn't have done that to your soon to be ex-wife. Hopefully she'll just think she was randomly hacked...otherwise she might just have a case. If you have half a brain you will stop doing that to her.
