digital camera zoom question?
whats the difference between potical zoom and digital zoom. I am looking to buy a camera and one of my choices says 8X optical, 5X digital; 40X total and the other says 5X optical, 5X advanced digital zoom whats the difference? also is the Kodak M580 14 MP Digital Camera any good?

Optical zoom is done with the lens, and is to be preferred.
Digital zoom takes an acquired image and electronically blows it up with no increase in detail.
