Am I wrong about this?

I always thought that the drivers were not allowed to drop their window while on the racing surface except after being involved in a wreck and everything had been slowed down. Latley I've seen guys like Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch drop theirs like half way down the back straight heading for the pits or after a wreck but before anyone gets slowed down. I don't know about you but it scares the crap out of me. Remember the driver that got hit by the ambulance!!

Update:

Window nets.... sorry

I don't know either, but dropping the window nets has always been a sign that the driver is alright if involved in a wreck. I don't know what would be their reason, except to get additional air into the car. I do remember the incident that you are referring to and maybe that issue should be addressed along with loosening the belts.

  • It must be a rule for green flag racing only. Drivers will drop the net or partially when they want to pit...to signal the other drivers they are heading that way...but I have never seen a driver drop his net during a green flag race. Once, several years ago something happened to someones net...and I want to say Kasey Kahne but not sure...and he was black flagged.

once the race is over "the rules" don't apply

window nets were only ever designed to keep a driver's limbs inside the car during a bad wreck, so tooling around at 50mph after the checkered flag has dropped doesn't account for much opportunity of anything really bad happening

yea..once they wreck or blow a motor then its the drivers discretion to put the window net down..

It must be up during green flag racing..
