Am I wrong about this?

I always thought that the drivers were not allowed to drop their window nets while they were on the track unless they were involved in a wreck and until everything had been slowed down.

Lately i've noticed guys like Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch drop their net like half way down the back straight as they headed for pit lane or right after their involved in a crash before the field even gets slowed down. All I know is it scares the crap out of me when I see it.

I don't know but I've noticed that too! When Kyle Busch was still sliding down the wall he took his window net down! I'm sure it was out of frustration and just wanted to get out but it struck me as odd and unsafe too.

Yes some will drop it when they are going down pit road after a wreck to singnal they are going down the track. Then when they get to pit road a crew member puts it back up. Also when they do wreck, they put it down to singnal to the NASCAR crew members that they are ok. You will see when there is a hard wreck between 2 drivers and one driver gets out and sees the other guys net istn down he will run over to the car to see if he is ok befor the medics get there.

  • I don't know what the rule is...I have seen many drivers drop them to wave cars by when they want to get to pit road or to signal that they are going to pit road. Maybe it is just when a race is going on that they can't drop the net. I have only seen them drop it under caution.

I don't know why it would scare you. If a crash were to happen that little net isn't

going to hold a guy in. Thats why the drivers are in so tight.

dropping the net after a crash is a sign to nascar that the driver is ok.
