Can Guinea pigs eat rabbit food?

We've just bought my daughter 2 male guinea pigs (6 weeks old) as our last rabbit died last week. We bought a sack full of super rabbit mix before he died, can the guinea pigs eat it or should I bin it. I have read several websites but had differing opinions so would appreciate an answer from someone with experience, many thanks.

Guinea pig food is fortified with vitamin C because they don't produce their own naturally. Rabbits do and thus their food is not fortified. Guinea pigs really need to eat guinea pig food. If they don't get that vitamin C they can get scurvy.

See if your local shelter or rabbit rescue will accept the rabbit food and buy some piggy food for your guinea pigs.

No, do not feed guinea pigs.. rabbit food. But some foods are alright like Timothy Hay is for rabbits and guinea pigs and sometimes carrots are ok for them. Do not feed them the dry food for rabbits though.

Rabbit food is fine, but it doesn't have everything the guinea pig needs. My advice would be to feed it guinea pig food.

No, rabbits need different nutrients and different amounts than guinea pigs, so stick with guinea pig food.

Also give them lots of fruits and veggies!

No guinea pigs have different diety needs than rabbit. So you need to feed them guinea pig food.

Nope rabbits have rabbit food because it has the stuff in they need and its especially catored to their needs, just as with Guinea pigs. You should just throw it away or give it to someone you know with a rabbit :)

Depending on brand, may have too much vitamin D and no C.

If you're trying to save cash, mix it with some regular pig food so it's more nutritional and you're not wasting.

If you can afford a new bag, get one specifically for cavies and give the rabbit food to a local shelter or a friend with rabbits.

    Hi there.

I'm afraid not, no. Guinea pigs need much more vitamin C.

    I hope I helped.

Yes, they can. If they eat it it won't harm them, as Ive done it before. Just make sure that the guinea pig gets a vitamin C supplement otherwise they can develop scurvy. However, even though I haven't had any problems with it in the past it's really best to get guinea pig food for your guinea pig. It's just good to know that what you're feeding your animal is specifically designed for your animal, you know?

So really, it's up to you. :)
