Will my doctor induce labor?
Hi,
I know it's too soon to worry about this, but given the circumstances it's driving me nuts. My due date is July 15th and my husband is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan for a year on August 2nd. If for some reason our baby is late and I miss my due date, would the doctors possibly be willing to induce me? My husband really wants to meet our daughter before he goes away for a year!
Thanks in advance!

I'm sure they'd be willing to cooperate. I was due 4 days ago and my husband is deploying to Iraq March 17th. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and will be begging him to induce me by the end of the week. I want my husband to have as much time as possible with his son before he has to be gone for a year.
Just ask them. I'm sure they will.

My friend was induced a 39 weeks just because she choose to be. While I don't agree with her choice, everything went fine and a baby born at 39 weeks is completely healthy. I just found out I am pregnant and my husband is scheduled to deploy a month after I am due. My doctor has already told us that we can induce after 38 weeks so my husband can spend more time with our baby. We have already decided against it but it is an option. My doctor also pointed out that there is the option to ask the Army (or whatever branch your husband is in) to delay his deployment by a couple of weeks. He said that he has had several patients would have been granted extensions on their deployment date due to family hardship and medical needs. Good luck and may the birth of your child go smoothly and your husband's deployment fly by.

Your doctor probably won't let you be over a week and a half late, so you would definitely be induced before he is deployed.
It is unhealthy for both you and the baby if you go over more than 10 days.
Best of Luck! =)

A doctor wouldn't allow you to go from july 15 to august 2nd without inducing anyway, i wouldn't worry too much about him not being there

Yup. Once the full term time has been met, inducing you shouldn't be a problem. After all, at that time the baby would have fully developed to the point where as its safe to leave the womb.

Most doctors will induce you at 39 weeks if you desire and for you this would be any time after July 8 so you should be fine and he should meet her. Best of luck to you both and thank him for his service

I think you should be giving birth by then. Most doctors won't induce you unless you are high risk. Well good luck..

i doubt you are that late...and yea if you are two weeks late he will induce, good luck best wishes for your man.

No good OB will induce labor simply for convenience -
Its unethical in my professional opinion to induce for anything other than a medically deemed reason -
I understand your circumstance but you also knew that there's the chance of deployment prior to getting pregnant
You risk needing a c-section which is major surgery - not fun to recover from on top of caring for a newborn
