What happened to China when the Soviet Union fell?

When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, how did it affect China, or any other Asian Communist country?

Sino-Soviet split had a profound effect on development of both powers as well as on the influence and prestige of communist totalitarian regime. However, communism in Eastern Europe and USSR run out of steam, because the East was contrasting poorly with the West. It had not support among people and me living during communism, I do not know anyone, who would believe that this system was any good, viable, or perspective. So the Eastern European communist without support of the population that desired freedom and better economical opportunities withdrew. The Chinese had learned a lot from downfall of USSR and Eastern European communism. First of all, they had never allowed freedom into level that was possible in USSR and some Eastern European countries in the 60's or later in the 80's. Instead, Chinese political system became more totalitarian with much better control of media and flow of information. The communists in the Europe were never able to put down either christian opposition, or intellectual elite having contacts with the West. Second issue, China moved from rigid centrally planned economy into world's sweatshop supplied the capitalistic world with its industrial production with exchange of the technologies, capital, and innovation into their economy. Chinese economy was transformed into world economical powerhouse, since it was visible for the communists that the economical strength of their country depends on the regime's survival. So China went to road between capitalism and planned economy, while having single party totalitarian regime controlling everything. Any case, communism as ideology would not survive in the societies coming from greco-roman and judeochristian background where degree of individuality was always vital for the survival, while in the China, the communism builds its into own version of totality that became integrated with society as whole.

The weakening of Soviet power led to some challenges to Communist rule in China. Those challenges were crushed in the Tien An Men Massacre. Because of the Tien An Men massacre, the final collapse of the Soviet Union didn't lead to any threats to Communist rule in China, but by this time the Chinese government was Communist in name only.
