2001 Honda CRV 4x4-- Is it good for rough roads- but not off-roading?

I live in Mexico and do quite a bit of dirt road driving. When it rains (which is rare) the roads are nearly impassable.

What I'm looking for is whether or not a Honda CRV will be tough enough to withstand rough dirt, clay roads, the occasional shallow riverbed crossing and rocky/ rutted roads on a regular basis.

Simply put- Is it tough enough?

I have taken my brothers 98 CRV 4x4 on some steep rutty off road trails. Surprising enough, it did OK. I made it back out of there OK. Now it was muddy down that road but it still had rocks too. Clay mud is another story and going to need mud tires and those might look funny on a CRV.

I would recommend a Tacoma for some reliable off road excursions.

No, you might be able to use it for light off road usage, but don't expect to use it to climb steep terrain or go over tough terrain like you can do in a 4wd suv.
