Why does my dog want to eat 24/7?

I have a Jack Russel thank spends most of the day begging for food. No matter how much she eats she's always hungry. Anyone else have this problem & do you think it might be a medical condition?

Every breed and every dog is different: some can self feed, others (like mine) would explode if I let them eat all they wanted!

Jack Russells are very energetic dogs. Is he getting out for a good run every day? Getting enough exercise?

Have you spoken to your breeder or your vet? Are you sure you're feeding adequately and that the dog is sufficiently nourished?

If you're sure, then just ignore him when he begs. If you give him treats whenever he begs, then he has trained you well!

Take her to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Do not wait until tomorrow, it may be too late. There are 24 hour vet clinics all over the place. When a dog can't keep down food or water, chances are IT IS SERIOUS. If your dog hasn't had anything to drink for two days, she's probably already in critical condition from dehydration alone. Stay on your computer long enough to find a 24 hour vet clinic near you and then GET GOING!!!

Yeah, we have a golden retriever puppy that's growing. How old is your dog? Of course, it's really common for puppies to want to eat all the time, and it's not bad for them either. They actually need to eat all the time. But, I guess it all depends on how old your dog is. I would ask around, or maybe go to the vet if you think it's a big concern.

    Hope it helped,

    Good Luck!! :)

A vet check wouldn't hurt. Worms could do this and so could a few other medical issues. Is this a new behavior? That would have me more concerned.

Has anyone in your household been giving in to the begging? That would also perpetuate the behavior.

My APBT is the same way,she is a piggy.I know that they have nothing better to do and that they can get bored but we take her for walks, snuggle and play with her ALOT and she still begs ALL day long.It cannot be worms in our case due to the fact that our dog is a good 10 lbs. overweight.Right? Not sure.

well all dogs will keep eating if you give them food, but maybe you should take your dog to the vet. jack russel's are also very energetic so maybe she just needs fuel for playing.

seriously? my pom would eat until she exploded if we let her. some dogs just have insatiable appetites. do not over feed her and do not allow her to beg. put her in a crate or a different room while you are eating.

  • Well it could be a medical issue, but it may be that someone has gave him tasty morsels that came from their hand.... just a guess!
