Is it safe to say I'll never hear from the company?
I interviewed for a job recently. Everything went well on the interview, or so I thought. The rep told me at the time that she would be traveling, but will make sure my info is submitted for a 2nd interview. 2 weeks after, I hadn't heard anything from her, so I called and left her a message checking my status. I guess I messed myself up doing that, because here it is a week since I left that voice message, and I haven't heard from her. I hate when employers get my hopes up, only for them to get dashed. Especially now when I've been out of work for months and desperately need work. Your thoughts?

Companies always get in touch with the people they want. Often, they don't have time to let you know if you've been unsuccessful.
I don't want to dash your hopes, but I don't think you will hear from them now.
You shouldn't assume this is because you rang though - they will have made up their minds soon after the first interview, probably because they had too many good candidates and so had to whittle it down.
Keep trying.

Keep searching for jobs no matter what happens with this one. She may truly be a busy person depending on how many applicants she had to interview, or she may have already filled the position. Either way it shouldn't discourage you from looking. Give her another week or so and then follow up with another phone call/email. Then if no response, hey at least you did your best on the interview. That will help you prepare for the next one.

I agree with you, that is a sh*t thing to do.
They should tell you what is going on either way instead of being so ball less and cowardly.
I am sure they know people are waiting eagerly by the phone after an interview.
Selfish and rude.

Keep calling until somebody tell you no or give you the second interview. It happened to me with the job I have now, they did not call me back so I kept calling and calling until they gave me an interview and here I am... working with them.
However you have to be ready to hear them saying we do no want/need you because that could been my case but thanks it was not!!

I believe you should keep calling. Persistence is key. Call them as often as you would like, even stop by. Trust me, the worst that could happen is you don't get the job. And if you show up everyday, or call everyday, it will show that you are committed. Don't let them forget you, or you wont get the job. :D

how was you calling to check messing yourself up? you didnt mess anything up, some employers are just irresponsible. i am having the same issue where they get you excited as if you already have the job and then you never here from them again.

Sorry but I think you should move on, this is pretty typical post-interview behavior. Never get your hopes up until you get the hand-shake.
