Can anyone recommend a "build your own robot kit" for my hubbies 40th birthday?
I've looked into the VEX robotic designs and the LEGO NXT mindstorms--but don't know which one is better. Any ideas? Am I missing something else?

I'm not familiar with the VEX system, but I bought my 10 year old a LEGO Mindstorms NXT kit this past year and I've enjoyed every minute of it. :) and... I'm 41. I just looked briefly at the VEX site online and one immediate difference I see is that it has the option to use a radio controller console to manually control the robot's movements--as opposed to relying solely on pre-programmed instructions. This is not something that comes with the NXT system, although it can be programmed to accept input from bluetooth devices.
I loved playing with LEGO's as a kid and that love for LEGO's has never ended. I really enjoy the NXT. If you do go for the next, Amazon has a great price on it. $211, I believe. The link is below.
