What does IC stand for in IC rated potlights?

It is my understanding that the IC stands for "insulation contact". Can someone verify this?

    I/C means that the light can be in direct contact with Insulation. Insulation Contact rated. If it does not have this rating then you cannot have anything contact it or risk fire. THis should be stated right on the box as well.

    You answered it. IC stands for ...in Insulation Contact. It is designed not to cause combustion if smothered in insulation, as in blown in attic insulation.
