working in US for summer?

Hey... I'm from Canada... and I'd like to go work in the US for maybe 3 months in the summer so that I can be near my boyfriend. Is there any kind of special allowance or visa I can get for such a short time? I'm still a university student... so it's not like I'd be running a business or anything.. I just want a part time job so I can pay for college in the fall while still being there all summer. has anyone done this before? I keep hearing that it's not extremely difficult to do, but so far i haven't gotten any details. thanks!

Update:

what does it mean to be "sponsored"? and can it be ANY job? or does it have to be a specific kind?

well, there are Summer Work/Travel J visas and other J visa programs as well, including the camp consular progam mentioned earlier. Not all of the SWT visas require that you sign up to work with a specific employer before applying for the visa, but you do have to work through a sponsoring agency registered with the State Department. check around your university. there should be information there on these programs, or you can contact the US embassy and inquire there. check out the embassy website at usembassy.state.gov. Every US embassy and consulate in the world has their website information there.

    Yu have different options:

You can try to get a H1B or H2B Visa, which are the Visas for Temporary Work. In order to do so though, you need to find an employer before you move to the States because it's the employer that must sponsor you for your Work Visa.

Second option (since you're still in college) you can try to apply for a J VIsa, which is avisa for Exchange programs and trainees. But you must find an employer or an exchange program to sponsor you.

Otherwise (and maybe this is the simplest one) if you are between the age of 18 and 26 you can look for an au-pair job... there are a lot of programs for that...you can just make a search through google!

    Good luck!

Try Camp America, they may be able to offer you something as they hire students as camp counsellors. You might not be as close to your boyfriend as you want to be. You would need to get the job offer from then and then apply at your nearest American consulate for a visa to let you come here and work. You can't get any other type of work visa without a good degree and a company willing to sponsor you.
