How much is a 'gross' of paper?

Question on daughter's homework assignment asks this.

Please cite your source.

Update:

She's in 5th grade, but I'm not sure why that matters for the sake of the question.

The question is this:

"Circle the smallest amount of paper.

a quire

a ream

a gross"

20 years in printing, I know what a quire and ream are, but have never heard of paper being measured in a 'gross'.

According to my Chemistry workbook, a gross is:

"...a specific number of items, analogous (but not equal) to one dozen."

...in other words, it is 12 * 12 or 144 items. All you have to do is take 144 and multiply it by the number of gross you need. Say you have two gross of something, well, that would be 144*2= 228.

Your question is asking for a single gross and that would be 144 (it can't be twelve because remember, 12 is a dozen and a gross is NOT equal to a dozen).

    Hope I helped :)

    1 Quire = 24 or 25 sheets

    1 Gross = 144 sheets

    1 Ream = 480 or 500 sheets

I only asked because in 5th grade I don't remember having to be familiar with printing terms. Was trying to establish the context of the question.
