Why do some big women wear clothes that are way too tight?

Now before people jump on me, I am aware that I have no right to dictate what people can wear. I'm a size 12 myself, so in no way am I a skinny minnie. But at least I do wear shirts that are appropriate for my size.

I see way too many big women wearing tops that are way too tight and small, and it is not cute. I see it every day at work, and it looks tacky. No one wants to see lumps, bumps and rolls popping out of a top that's two times too small, especially at work.

Big women need to wear tops that are more forgiving to their shape, and stop trying to dress like these skinny women. There are plenty of stores like Ashley Stewart and Lane Bryant and Torrid that have cute tops that are size appropriate. Anyone else have opinions on this?

Update:

@ double: looking at the big women at my job, I highly doubt that they ever used to be small.....lol

Update 2:

and it just dawned on me that alot of the clothing makers charge a bit more for plus sized clothing than clothing in regular sizes. Perhaps that is why some big women do what they do. In that respect I guess I could understand, but it still doesn't look right.

How about the fashion industry actually making cute clothes to fit them. Who wants to wear clothes with flowers, mickey mouse and argyle all over them. What are people thinking. If someone is heavy, these prints do not help with that.

I used to be a size 22 and now I am a 10. I understand some of their complaints. No, I never wore anything that let my gut and other parts hang out. That is . But if they had better choices in clothes and some direction in what they look good in, it might fix some of it.

Now now "Double" don't get offended. it's understandable I was a size 10 before I got pregnant a 12 after that and recently had to buy shorts in a 14 however I'm tall so most wouldn't believe it if they saw me. My point is I've been too lazy to take me *ss to the gym and instead of wearin the stuff i could wear last summer I went and got a few new pieces to hold until I do get back in the gym (next week fingers crossed) and know what? if I do get back down I can just have the shorts altered so it's no money lost. Laziness is NEVER an excuse.

Well, I guess some bigger women wear tight clothes for the same reason that some skinny women prefer loose, baggy clothes - they just like them. If it makes them look bad but feel good, the feeling good is more important. I rather look shite but feel good about myself than look brilliant but feel bad.

I do think most women will dress appropriately, at least at work, and maybe it's the women at your job that are the exceptions? it depends what job you're in too - if you're in a very public job there's more pressure on looking appropriate than there is in, say, a call center, if you know what I mean.

By the way, I didn't think size 12 was that big (I keep getting told that I'm skinny, but my clothes are UK size 10-12 /M-L because I don't like them too tight despite "having the figure" for it).

I have to agree with Ciara above me btw, Queen Latifa looks great - anyone seen Hairspray? The outfits and looks in there were pretty brilliant. Big, Blonde and Beautiful Motormouth Maybelle always brings a smile to my face.

I feel the same way! I think part of it is b/c women like to say "I'm size 6!" when really they are a size 10 and just barely squeezing into a size 6.

I'm pregnant and gaining weight. I've been wearing bigger clothes b/c I don't want to be one of those people with fat rolls and muffin tops sticking out.

I go to Lane Bryant with my friend and I get sad that they don't make clothes small enough for me! Women don't have to be skinny to look classy, but I have noticed that a lot of those stores are more expensive than buying a couple tops at Target or something. I think it's either a money issue or people think that they look good falling out of their clothes.

Some people just get so comfortable in the size that they are. So instead of wearing the appropriate size they fit in something a little tighter. Also nowadays everyone is promoting a size 0-2 on television, etc. so they must think that if they wear smaller clothes than they might feel and look smaller. Just my thought cause my sister is overweight and wears smaller sizes than I do. So that is the conclusion that I have come up with.

You got it good point and Wonder why.... Actually, I am big woman but I am not too proud of it. My understand that why big woman like be tight pant is the most than top shirt. I am one of them too. Tight pant or shirt make me feel don't want to buy more clothes for next different big size because it is cost expensive. It is very hard to find good price to buy. Like Target, Old Navy, Limited and many more. It is not easy for big woman have lot of deal with it because lot of emotional feeling being upset if gaining weight or next big size. They are on purpose to stay on same weight or losing weight. Hope you understand.

FYI: I did lost 30 lbs. Yes, I am so happy I did it however, I still not satisfy myself with my size. I am still process losing weight until my goal! Wink!

They wear things that don't fit or are inappropriate because stores like Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart and Torrid sell them. Large women think that because a store sells a size 56 bikini, then they can wear it. Ewwwwwwwwww!

Because they used to be smaller women and their old clothes don't fit. Also it could be that they are trying to lose weight and fit back into their old clothes.

    edit:

To address the comment of 'I Messed Up Didn't I?' below about being too lazy to buy new clothes...

In these tough economic times, some of us cannot afford new clothes.

to address the Asker on his edit -

In college I weighed 95 lbs at 5'2". After marriage I was 117, still small, size 6. After I got pregnant, I gained three sizes. After giving birth I went down one size only and being in my late twenties at the time, my body did not go back gracefully. I am now a size 10, sometimes 12, and it fluctuates during my pre-period bloated days. Pregnancy alters your body chemistry. It really does.

Source(s): I am now larger than I was in my twenties. I have gained 2 sizes since then. Even though I have bought newer clothes that fit well on the way up this weight ladder, I am dieting in hopes of fitting back into my old clothes. My point is that if my jeans are too tight, don't look. I am trying to slim down. Perhaps others are too.

I am a large women and I AGREE with you 100%. I look at larger women who are very attractive, and yet wear small clothing that they are hanging out everywhere.. that is very UNATTRACTIVE. I always wonder how people sometimes (large and small) are looking in the mirror and thinking that the clothes look ok.. I think tight clothes make some women feel SEXIER.. which may be true, but save it for the bedroom, not the beach.. ha ha..
