I agree with Patrick's assessment. But would also like to add that in Social programs, the Government makes all your decisions for you regarding your own money and life. In privatizing Social Security and Healthcare, YOU choose what you want to invest in and YOU choose what doctor(s) you want and when you want. In addition, YOUR money is used only for YOU. Whereas in Social programs, YOUR money is basically being shared with everyone else.

    Simple example:

You put in say $10,000 for your Social Security and someone else puts in $1000. That money is pooled together and split evenly. So you get $5500, and the other person gets $5500.

    Get it?

SS Privatization , is changing the Social Security system to a privately(personally) run system and away from the current publicly run system. People would be able to take the current 7% that the government takes for SS and invest it themselves. The money would be theirs , unlike the public system , the money is the governments , if you die you get ZERO!

Socialized medicine is when the government "pays" for all medical services for everyone, instead of private insurance and or individuals. I say "pay" because actuall its every person paying more to cover people that currently are not covered.

Answerer #1 is correct, however I'd like to add that people are often scared by the word "socialized". To add some perspective, public school, our library system, Social Security and our police and fire departments have been "socialized" for years. Watch the Michael Moore movie "Sicko" just out on DVD. But I will warn you it is definitely FOR universal healthcare. And I'd like to add BRAVO for asking about this and not just shooting your mouth off with no knowledge. It's important to learn amout these things and make up your own mind because it effects you as much as everyone else!

Privatization is where private companies run the businesses and actual people pay for the services themselves. Socialized medicine is where the government runs it and pays for it by taking everyone's money in taxes.

the first answerer is right....however, in modern 'politics' (its really just a big play for our amusement) the socialization of things and the privatization of things are two sides of the same coin.....
