Does my dog have ocd?
My lab mix has the strangest habit. We have hardwood floors, and she constantly licks the floor. It's the most bizzaar behavior I have ever seen in any of my pets. She'll lick all around where she is laying, then she'll get up and go to another spot. We all joke about her being obsessive compulsive, but it really has us stumped. Even my vet isn't sure why she does it.
there is always water down for her. the vet said, she feels like the dog just likes the feel of it on her tongue, however, it is excessive, and we mop everyday because we have 3 dogs and 9 cats.

Could be whatever you are cleaning your hardwood floor with and she's licking that. It would help to know the exact locations she's licking in. Is it in traffic pattern parts, is it near where foodstuff may have been dropped and then picked up?
When does it occur most? Right after you've cleaned the floors? Right before you clean the floors. All these pieces of information might help you to get a better picture.
Or she just has her habit. They do have habits, no matter what other people say. Not ocd, but, like people, dogs have different 'predelictions'. Could also be a mineral deficiency and there's something there that she's getting. Or she's cleaning. [I had a Dobie that sucked his back paw and 'sang' -sounded like a horrid growl - all his life, just a nutty thing, he was perfectly happy, and that's what we found out, he was doing it when he was really contented and happy, go figure]
Ask the vet about the minerals - it's not a really noticable thing, but very easy to take care of.
I knew a bassett hound that ate rocks, lots of em. The vet would surgically remove them, and the hound would go right back to eating them. I finally got the people to ask the vet about mineral supplementation and the dog stopped eating rocks. I knew a keeshonden that licked paper. Same thing. Mineral supplementation. But not until the vet was specifically asked about it. So, I suggest you just toss that by your vet.
Now if you can get her to wag her tail while she's licking the floor and you tie a clean rag to her tail you may not have to clean your floors any more.

OCD DEFINITELY can happen to dogs. It is quite possible that is the problem.
Here's a link, but there are many more.
http://dogs.about.com/cs/disableddogs/a/ocd.htm
p.s. "OCD" in dogs is also the name of a joint disorder, so you need to type out "obsessive compulsive dogs" in the search bar

she's not thirsty is she? is the floor cold? most dogs will lick cold surfaces, but if your dog does it alllllll the time i would definitely call it OCD.

Dogs don't have mental health issues like people. They don't over think things like people do. Very likely she smells something spilled there..

If your vet doesn't know, how the heck are we supposed to know?
