Child Development Question?
Is it true that in order to synthesize information, a child must be fifteen years of age or older? If so, why? If not, then what age and why?

There are different theories about cognitive development but according to Piaget, most children will be able to synthesize and analize in the formal operational stage which is usually about age 15+. There can be some variability depending on genetics and environment, so a child with constant intellectual stimulation may achieve this stage earlier than one who rarely reads or excercises his mind.
As for the answer to why, there are several theories but no one knows for sure. It is just accepted that through research a child gains certain skills, beginning with identifying familiar objects, all the way up to complicated analysis. It takes time to build up enough skills to understand information enough to compare and contrast different information. hope this helps! good luck. Dr. max S.
