Who'd consider himself a true F1 fan?Why?

Over the few days that I've been on this F1 forum I have been unpleasantly surprised to see that a lot of non fans are answering a lot of these questions. If you hate F1 shouldn't you be on a different forum? I personally don't want to hear people putting down this sport because they don't understand it. Are those people so bored or so much against it that they feel the urge to tell everybody how much it sucks? Unbelievable.

I've always loved racing. I can remember each year watching the Indy 500 and the occasional NASCAR race. But I can also remember when, I think it was ABC, would broadcast the Grand Prix of Monaco. I was just amazed when those cars would go through the tunnel.

I've always been more attracted to road racing. I like it when cars have to turn right as well as left. Once I found out more about Formula 1 cars I was hooked. Just the levels of technology fascinates me. The sounds of the cars and watching them change directions so fast is just great.

I guess I would be classified as a true F1 fan for many reasons. I wouldn't wake up at 5am just to watch practice for a NASCAR race but I do for F1. I record each practice and qualifying session as well as the race on DVD. Then I go back and edit out the commercials so I can watch the sessions without interruptions. I've got about 10 items of Formula 1 apparel and only 1 NASCAR hat. I went to every USGP race at Indianapolis except for the first year.

I like many other forms of racing but I hardly ever watch anything NASCAR related except maybe the end of the Daytona 500 just to see who won. But I'll watch entire races from ALMS, Rolex Sports Cars, IRL when they are on a road course, Champ Car (when it's on tv). I look forward to every June because that when the 24hrs of LeMans is being shown. I'll have A1GP to help get through the winter until the next F1 season.

I also wish we could see Aussie V8 Supercars as well as the German DTM series here in the US. I can't get enough road racing but Formula 1 will always be number 1 with me.

Well, let's just start with the question first... how is it racing? Just to be sure, I went ahead and took out the dictionary to confirm: 1. a contest of speed, as in running, riding, driving, or sailing. I then reread and yes... I was right, there is nothing at all that requires lead changes ora certain margin of victory. You cite a pair of examples where the fastest driver won. So, you seem to clearly understand that it was a driving contest of speed, but yet you're still asking? So just what is it that you're really asking... you seem to think a race requires overtaking? WRC is racing... yet there is almost never any overtaking unless someone suffers a mishap. Oh, and those cars are more expensive than a spec- Miata, I guess that WRC is thus dull and uninteresting and therefore someone should probably post a question as to how it could be considered racing? Or what about NASCAR when compared to my just mentioned Spec Miata... I mean the cars cost 10-20 times more than a spec-Miata, the margins of victory are often greater, and the field sizes smaller... and they can't make it through a race most often without crashing! Yes, clearly, with all things considered, at the moment Spec Miata would appear to be the absolute top of motorsport! Well, at least unless we want to start comparing to soap box racers... I mean those are usually very close contests with lead changes going back and forth almost right to the finish. When you consider that, how could anyone ever want to watch anything else ever again! Some people wonder how a serious baseball fan can enjoy watching a pitcher's duel, while the baseball fan, greatly enjoying the matchups within the game, finds it much MUCH better than a contest with homerun after homerun. Likewise, many race fans thrill for what it takes to make a pass work under the conditions in F1... if you don't fine, not everyone likes the same things. But really, do you really lack the comprehension to understand that other people see things differently and enjoy different aspects of racing?

I love Formula One and any other kind of road racing. When I watched my first F1 race in 2002 I immediately got hooked. I don't only watch the F1 race but I get up extra early to watch SPEED's coverage of the delayed Saturday feature race of the GP2 Series race. How many people do that? Not many. Waking up on a race weekend is my Sunday ritual now and is a part of my life. It is good that their is a channel in the United States that shows all F1 races LIVE. That is what I like although for the Asian grand prixs I usually watch it on tape delay because I just cannot stay up all night to watch it. Australia I can do but Asia no.

I hate NASCAR and IndyCar. Racing is not meant to be raced on ovals. I mean really how many people watch the full NASCAR race? Not many unless you are actually at the race itself. I mean I usually start watching the race near the end of the race. Also the NASCAR point system sucks. I mean everyone even the last place car gets points and I have absolutely no idea how the points work nor do I want to know. IndyCar is ******** as it is a spinoff of ChampCar (formerly CART) and is the stupidest decision in sports series. I mean sure all of the big ChampCar moved to the series but still no. That is the reason why NASCAR is the more popular racing in the United States because of the CART and IndyCar split

I also enjoy watching the ALMS and the Rolex Sports Car Series a.k.a. Grand-Am. The only real racing in the world is Formula One, MotoGP, WRC, WTCC, FIA GT Championship, V8 Supercars, DTM, A1 Grand Prix and of course Le Mans. Thats it. Everything else is bullcrap and fake. This is according to me.

I'd say I'm a true fan as I reserve the right to be completely objective about the sport.

If I think it's going through a bad patch and is terrible I will say so. If I think we're seeing classic racing I'll be on here raving about that also.

Besides, I once spent over 24 hours traveling to Australia just to watch the Australian GP a few years ago.

I'd say I have the right to qualify as a fan, purely on the basis that my only reason for traveling so far was to watch an F1 GP (I'd been to Silverstone the previous year and needed to see another) and to see no other part of the country.

It was an exhausting way to watch a GP, but it was well worth it just to see Mark Webber pick up some points in the Minardi in his home race. Fantastic!

I first love racing and then I have my favorites. F1 is in the top four or five that I love.

I enjoy the IRL for a few reasons there track choice is leagues better than there competitor CHAMP Car.

I love motorcycle road racers. What a bunch of brave souls they are and even the 125 class is great.

I love the V8 super car series ail though in the US we don't get to see them like I would like I know they are there and can only wish to see more of them.

I love F1 too. the pure speed and and handling of there cars is a true amazement. and how fit the drivers must have to be to endure that kind of G-force for that period of time WOW!!

I love the drag racing scene too. How you can go those kind of speeds in such a short distance is truly one of the most amazing things there are to me. And then to have a pro stock class that every car is so close every race.

If you are wanting me to say do I know what kind of spark plugs or who makes F1 steering wheels can't help you there you will just have to look it up like I would. Do I love F1 heck yes I do.

One thing you won't see me do is tell you how great NASCAR nation is because it isn't It is full of mindless kids who love there nextel phones and enjoy making stars out of there drivers. I was there in the beginning of NASCAR and I would even take 7 years ago compared to today any day of the week. This is why NASCAR is just in the top 10 for me. It maybe 10th too.

  • That happens everywhere. It may be that some of the NASCAR trolls travelled over here for a little bit. I answer questions on here every now and then, but I'm more of a NASCAR fan than an F1 fan. However, I won't ever put it down...racing's racing!

I reckon the best thing to do is ignore them, and report them if they get too nasty. Wish we didn't have these kinds of users.

I am. i have been watching it for more than a few years.

Unfortunately on a site like this you will get people coming on to different sections and leaving unwanted answers (just check out the R&S section, they have a major troll problem). the best thing to do is just ignore the irrellivent answers and concentrate on the answers from the genuine fans.

If you are a true F1 fan then you will respect all other motor sports and not diss their fans.

I ******* love F1. Any sort of motor racing for that matter. I don't know all the technical aspects of the sport but i do watch it with the volume turned up.

I don't really mind those idiots who bash f1 on here, you can't expect everyone to like it, they are just expressing their opinions. I ******* love F1 and i couldn't care less what other people think.

I like watching F1 races. I think it is much better than Nascar or the Indy series. F1 cars are much more advanced and the circuits that they race at are world's best. I wake up at 730AM to watch most of the races.
