How come McLaren hasn't lost any performance but gained some when they switched tire manufacturer?coincidence?
All the former Michelin users were strongly affected by the tire manufacturer switch at the beginning of the season but, funny enough, McLaren not only did not lose performance, on the contrary, they gained performance. For a rookie year with the new tires, wouldn't this prove a little suspicious? these tires, while not underperforming at all, are a different spec from what they were using in all the previous years. So, one needs testing and lots of experience to be successful on these tires. I am just very skeptical about the whole shebang.

I would put it down to coincidence even though after all the information has come out, it would be easy to blame it on inside info.
The reason I say coincidence is that BMW also ran on Michelins in 2006 but they have seemed to gain pace in 2007. Renault on the other hand, ran on Michelins in 2006 but have lost a considerable amount of performance in 2007.
Another factor in McLaren's strength this year is that they are not blowing engines like they have the previous 2 years. Add the points that the engine troubles cost them in those years and they might just have been right up there with Ferrari and Renault in 2005 and 2006. Safe to say that Kimi could have won the Drivers title in 2005 if it had not been for poor reliability.
Maybe the Bridgestone tires just brought the McLaren and BMW chassis into line and the Renault was so on edge and depended on those Michelins so much that the Bridgestones totally upset the balance of their chassis.
But like you said, it's easy to be skeptical about the whole thing.

Exactly. I don't think this is merely a coincidence. They have Ferrari's stolen data after all and some people may say that Ferrari are the ones at fault but I think there are two sides to every story. McLaren are definitely having an advantage over Ferrari.

While i concur that what it says in the statement was pretty damning on McLarens part. The choice of Bridgestone as the sole tyre supplier was designed to help Ferrari's cause. Just like the banning of Michelins "wider" front tyres, and the one tyre rule which Michelin perfected. Ferrari are very biased towards Bridgestone.

Parts 3.13 to 3.15 of the FIA judgement against McLaren throw a lot of light onto this. They nicked Ferrari's technique, basically.
