as a general rule, a person with any O type blood can donate to ANY blood type. HOWEVER, there are other factors involved in matching a kidney, not just blood type. The simple way to explain it is that other proteins and genes must match to create a good donor match.
consider also, that there are many other people you may match if you do not match your family member. Many transplant programs are turning to "donor trades" where a family member that does not match their own recipient will be matched with someone who does and the donors are "swapped" to the correct candidate.
if you are thinking about being tested for donorship, I applaud you, it is a wonderful gift.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
