instead of sun-in use 1 part lemon and 3 parts conditioner, it is less damaging to your hair with basically the same results, which for your hair would most likely be auburn

Sun In is pretty old -- we used it in high school (20 yr reunion this year. Amazing since I am only 29)
If you barely use it, it may be ok, but most of the time you end up with orangey hair.
You really want to look for a product that is made for hair your color. Or get highlights professionally done.
If you are in a city -- check for stylist schools where they can do it cheaper and still look good.

I guess I'll be giving away my age because I actually know what Sun In is. It will give you bronze highlights very quickly but it is extremely drying on your hair. I used it years ago and it broke off my hair. There are much better options on the market nowadays. You could try painting streaks in your hair with a permanent color of your choice, like L'Oreal, Revlon (blonde, light golden browns, reddish brown, copper). Most of the hair painting methods damage the hair.

I recently begged my mom to get sun-in but i held off a couple of days and just got highlights. After everything I've read and friend's experiences, Sun-in is horrible for you. It will dry your hair out and make it brittle. And since you hair is a darker brown it will turn it a brassy orange shade, and give you HORRIBLE roots! Please, don't use it!!

sun in is horrible for hair no matter what the shade but I have dark brown hair also and it turned it a deep shade of orange that was most definately not attractive

I didn't know it still existed. It turned my hair orange about 20 years ago and never bought it again. My hair was dark brown.

you will get auburn and caramel colored highlights. with long term use, however, it may turn your hair bronzey, so be careful not to overdo it day after day! good luck!
