How do I ask in portuguese "Are you taking care of Micaela's cat since she left?"?

I need to know if anyone is taking care of a neighbour's cat now that her whole family has been deported (along with many other families in Toronto). Thanks to all those who can help me with this question and anything else I should know em portugues!

"Tens / Tem (1) tomado conta do / da gato / gata (2) da Micaela desde que ela partiu?"

    (1) This depends on the relationship you have with the person you are talking with. If he/she is very close, you can use "Tens" which is very informal and corresponds to the informal singular second person pronoun "Tu". In case it is a more formal relationship, you should use "Tem", corresponding to the also more formal "Você".

    (2) " do gato" if it is a male; " da gata" is it is a female.

Note: Unless you wish to say it in the Brazilian variant of Portuguese, you should not use the gerund form "Você está tomando conta..." In Portuguese from Portugal, the gerund form should be avoided as much as possible and in this case it is perfectly avoidable... Besides, that family is Portuguese, is it not?

    Source(s): I know! ;) You are welcome!

Você está tomando cuidado do gato de Micaela desde que ela saiu? The first answerer was "almost" right, but that is the way to write it.
