Ballpark estimate on a garage?
We're buying a house that has no existing garage. We need one that will need to have room for two cars and a Suburban, plus it will need to be 'deep' so that we can fit a motorcycle, lawnmower, and work bench in there. There's no need for it to be particularly tall; we don't need a storage loft or anything like that. My husband wants a sink, and would prefer it to have heat & air. We live in the KC area. I don't know the square footage; we're trying to figure that out. An estimate including labor would be super helpful.
3 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling6 years agoIs the Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 4GB an acceptable substitute for the Gigabyte R9 270X 2GB?
I m supposed to be buying parts to build a Minecrafting (playing AND recording) computer for my kids, but the guy who s building it didn t give me a list of parts. So I m going off of this list: http://elitegamingcomputers.com/how-to-get-a-compu... (the $500 build). But the video card listed, the Gigabyte, isn t available via Amazon Prime, and I really need it to be. I noticed the dimensions are different, but the Sapphire is actually smaller, so I don t imagine that would be an issue. I just don t know about the differences in performance and such, since one is a 2GB & the other s a 4GB. Some of the articles I read said that a good graphics card is the most important part of the build, so does that mean that the Sapphire would be better? I really have no idea what I m doing, and could use the help.
2 AnswersOther - Hardware6 years agoNURSES - For Christmas, I want to buy my sister-in-law, who is a nurse, something super handy and practical for work.?
I've been researching for hours, looking through websites boasting the best gifts for nurses, and others showing off lists of must-haves, but most of what I'm finding are small things like scissors and tape, or shirts and knick-knacks with 'nurse' or dumb things like 'nurses call the shots' printed on them. A lot of sites recommend good shoes or scrubs with lots of pockets, but I can't presume to know her preferences where those are concerned. The Littman Cardiology III stethoscope was highly recommended, but out of my price range. I have a $100 spending limit. What should I get? If I can't figure it out, I'll have to end up giving her a gift card to a site that sells shoes or scrubs. And gift cards are definitely awesome, but after this much research, I feel like I need to do better!
2 AnswersChristmas7 years agoI have a brand new pressure cooker, some thin-cut chuck steak, and a hunk of Jarlsberg.?
I've never used a pressure cooker before, but received one for Christmas. If i slice up the Jarlsberg and roll it up in the tenderized, marinated steaks, will they turn out fine, or am I asking for trouble? I'm running out of groceries, and this sounded good.
11 AnswersCooking & Recipes7 years agoAre the mesh sleeves that garlic come in safe to use in the crock pot?
I'm making ham stew in the crock pot, and there are things I like to throw in there for flavor that I don't actually want in the stew, like whole (peeled) garlic cloves, peppercorns, bay leaves, cloves, etc.
I'd like to use the mesh sleeve that the head of garlic was in, put those things in it, tie it off, and then put it in the crock pot with the ham and veggies. Does anyone know if the sleeves are safe to use this way?
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoDoes anyone know what brand shirts to buy for a super skinny little boy?
My son is 6 and prefers shirts that are more form-fitting. The trouble is, even though he's somewhat tall, he still only weighs 42 lbs, so he absolutely swims in most of the shirts available to him. We did find one brand, '10 again', that fits really well, but I've yet to find anything else.
Jeans aren't an issue; I just buy him little girls jeans with no embellishments, and they fit much better than anything we've found in the boys' section.
1 AnswerFashion & Accessories10 years agoIs it safe travel on Interstate 8 near the Mexico border?
We're from Kansas City, and we're leaving tonight for San Diego. Our original plan was to take I-8 from Phoenix; in fact, I was on here a few weeks ago, asking what the best route would be between the two, and the results were overwhelmingly in favor of I-8.
But one of my coworkers just told me that they've been having a lot of carjackings near the Mexico border, and since we'll have our two preschoolers with us, I'm concerned. Exactly how frequently is this happening?
She says we shouldn't go that way. What say you?
8 AnswersSan Diego1 decade agoWe have audio but not video on our portable DVD player. How do we fix it?
It's a dual screen, so it's got the cables that come from the main device and plug in to each screen. (We secure them to the back of the captain's chairs in the minivan so our kids can watch movies during long road trips.)
2 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoBest route? I'm driving from Kansas City to San Diego; I'd like to know which way to go when I get to Phoenix.?
I'm really looking for the fastest route, because I'll have my 4- and 6-year-old with me, and it's a REALLLY long trip. Someone told me that 8 is the fastest, but it's not as safe as 10 because of all the curves.
I believe I'll be coming into Phoenix on 87. If I take 8, should I take 10 to 85 to 8, or should I take 347 through Maricopa? It looks like it may be faster, but since it isn't an interstate, I'm wary.
If I take 10 (which looks like it'll take me pretty far out of my way, by the way), which highway should I take back south into San Diego?
Also, we'll be there for about five days. Aside from the infamous zoo, what else should we see?
Thanks in advance. =)

2 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoConverting AVI files?
I bought a digital camera that also has a camcorder. When I take a video of my kids and upload it to the computer, it is an AVI file. Apparently, I can't do anything with that kind of file. I was trying to upload the videos onto YouTube (private, not public) for my family in Idaho to view, but I guess I have to convert them to a different kind of file first. I downloaded three different kinds of converters, but after they convert the video, they all have this big thing in the middle of the screen 'reminding' me that it only costs $25 (or something like that) to buy the software. Frankly, I spent enough money on the camera, not expecting to run into this problem. Am I doing something wrong, here? Help would be greatly appreciated.
3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoCan you tell me the name of a sci-fi author of two books I read in high school?
I wish I could recall what the books were called. I'm positive the author was male, and the books weren't new. I read them in 1994.
Book 1: Two teenage brothers are spending the summer at a vacation house (I think). They discover that time moves faster in the shed on the property. I believe the boys are twins, and one threatens to spend time in the shed by himself so he'll be older than the other. The other thinks he's serious, and beats him to it. He sneaks out during the night and spends a year in the shed. I remember he eats a lot of army biscuits and exercises a lot, so he comes out looking completely different. He tries to eat a candy bar once, after he's been in there several months, and it makes him sick. There is some kind of portal in the shed, and he can see something in it that gets closer every day. It ends up being some kind of metallic monster that 'eats' the shed when it finally comes through. That's about all I can remember.
Book 2: I remember much less about this one. I believe it also stars two brothers: one who composes music and one who plays it (I think). Someone keeps telling the composer that one specific piece of the music sounds wrong, and they make him change it. This happens several times. The brother who plays the piano has concerts, and after the concerts he is contacted by a strange person who somehow knows that a piece of the music was changed. In the end I remember that the music ended up being the long-lost works of some famous composer.
Can anyone help? I remember enjoying the books when I was fourteen, and I'd like to rediscover them.
