  • Upgrading hardware, is 64bit worth the extra?

My current (home grown) kit is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. So I'm thinking of upgrading the motherboard, CPU and RAM. The GPU is OK and I have Windows 7 which includes the 64 bit option so (I assume) I can just upgrade the OS without extra cost.

Is it worth going the extra mile and getting a 64bit system ? or would I be paying for performance I'll never use (highest use video editing/playback, not a gamer)

Are there any downsides to doing so ?

I don't mind spending extra if it's worth it.

Any advice or tips gratefully received.

    Cheers

  • Why is the elephant the symbol of the US Republican party?

Just seems a bit odd since as far as I'm aware there aren't too many herds of elephants roaming around the states.

I know it's the eagle in one or two states, which does make sense, but why on earth would an American political party not pick an American animal, like a grizzly bear, or a mountain lion or a buffalo ?

I'm not making any political point, I'm just curious
