  • Ford 4.6 Project car ?

So i’m working on a 74 Ranchero with my dad and our original plan was to use the motor we pulled from a 93 lincoln mark viii for $300 total with engine and trans and use that. After further research, I found that most the community recommends to use the aviator engine for the C heads and modern ignition. plan was to swap heads but it’s probably cheaper and easier with just get an aviator motor for $150 from the junkyard. We do have a 4r70 still from the 93 but i’m not sure if that’ll work with the aviator. we are using a standalone but i really don’t know much about compatibility with engine computers. obviously a 10 year difference. should we just keep the engine we have or get the newer, more powerful one? cost really isn’t too much of an issue since we can pick up a motor for $150 from the junkyard.

  • Lexus ES350 for an 18 year old?

So I’m about 4 months out from buying my next car. I currently own a 99 F150 that is getting too expensive so the truck has to go. After school gets out, I’ll have around $3k before I sell my truck and honestly, I’d probably get $2500 which leads me to have around $5500 before I start working full time in the summer. I can pull in about $3k in a little over a month. My original plans were to look at a 2010-12 Fusion with the 3.0 but then I realized that, the v6 trim was $5500-6k for essentially a budget sedan so I started poking around and saw I could get a 07-

    09 es350

for around the same price and mileage and it’s basically a Camry so reliability (right?) So long story short, I will have around $6k to put towards a new car. Yes I know a luxury car doesn’t seem smart for an 18 year old and some of you will say I should get a Camry or say I should cut my budget in half and go for a $3k 20 year old 4 banger but I plan on keeping this car for awhile and I want the car that I want (and can afford). So my question; are these cheap cars on insurance and does the Toyota reliability meet on this Lexus? Also am I just being a stupid teen spending way too much money on a car? I’ve never gotten a ticket and I know people say they’re good drivers all the time but I’m relatively conservative behind the wheel and not the stereotypical teen racing anywhere I go (and I pay for my own insurance and care much for a clean driving record!) Sorry for the long backstory too

  • I have ADHD in high school and my grades are making me fear my education and future. ?

To start off, a little back story. I am 17 years old as a junior in high school and I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD since I was roughly 9 or 10. I grew up in a military family and spent most of my elementary life overseas (Germany and Ukraine). I was never great at elementary school and struggled much with math. In 2013, I had to repeat the 5th grade because my grades at the International school I was at were not high enough to proceed to 6th grade. I believe it was 2013 when I started going on medication and tried to turn my education around and my grades. I was able to get A’s in some classes but again still struggled with math. In 2014, I moved back to the States and moved to Texas. My first time in public school in about 7 years and I quickly realized my ADHD was starting to show. It didn’t really show until high school. Everything was a struggle. Trying to stay on task because I would get distracted, no motivation, failing almost every test, etc. My worst year was sophomore year. I scraped by most my classes. I have no clue how to do chemistry and world history was a struggle. Junior year feels like a repeat. I’ve failed every on-level physics test, pre-cal and AP history test since the start of school. I’ve tried increasing dosage which didn’t help and I just feel depressed from all this. PSAT scores came out and I got a 900 which is below average I think and that hurts. I suck at science, math and can’t remember long readings. I’m scared for my future. What do I do?

  • Should I sell my truck for a Ford ranger?

I'm 17 years old and I just bought my first vehicle back in July. It's a 1999 Ford F150 Lariat with the 5.4 2V motor which I paid $3200 for. The truck had a new motor which has approximately 160k and the scary part is the tranny which has 254k. Shifts fine and has clean fluid when I test drove it. Drove it 2,000 miles just fine. Since then, I think I've sunk almost $6k on this truck (yes I know it's 20 years old. I know it's got it's own issues) with large repairs being replacing my A/C compressor as well as getting it recharged and having my mechanic install my receiver dryer on the nipple because I tried and it wouldn't get on (even my mechanic had a hard time so that totaled out to $390) as well as replacing the power steering pump. I mostly do repairs myself but I'm kinda at that point that if something else breaks that's going to cost another $400 to fix, I'm considering selling my truck next summer and buying a 5 speed ranger for practicality sake. So far it's been solid this last month but it's always been on my mind. It's probably not smart for me to sell it this soon but the next biggest scare is my transmission. These 2V 5.4's, while reliable, aren't the easiest things to work on (coming from a 17 year old because I am by no means a mechanic) especially compared to a ranger or an old Chevy 350 but I know technology evolves and I happen to have a more sophisticated motor. Should I consider selling my truck next summer before something else expensive ends up breaking?

  • Are my files lost or can I retrieve them?

My family has a Compaq Presario 5000 which has Windows XP on a 20GB hard drive. This hard drive has 2 versions of XP. One is missing hal.dll and the other is the one my family had been using for the longest time. This computer hasn’t been used since 2007. In 2014, I got the computer out of storage and I got into XP.I think I force shut it down so many times that now it won’t boot so I put it away for awhile. 5 years later, I had plugged it into my IDE port old Dell XPS 630i with Windows 7. I was able to go to file explorer on Windows 7 and I did see the 20GB drive called “Compaq”. All the files were there and my plan was to copy all the files over the next day. When I started it I saw that Windows 7 was trying to check the drive for errors with chkdsk so I thought “hey maybe if I let this run, it will make Windows XP work on the old Compaq.” So I let it run and I got multiple lines of “file record segment XXXX is unreadable” so that scared me a little bit and I told myself that the next time this boots up, I’m going to put everything to a flash drive before I screw something up. The chkdsk has finished and I booted up into Windows 7. From there I went to file explorer and all of it was gone. Drive letter F was completely empty and I got an error message saying “the drive is inaccessible due to different format”. I restarted the computer In hope that they would show back up and the chkdsk scan popped up again but it showed “Compaq” so it recognizes that Compaq does exist.

  • Help power steering leak won’t ever end.?

I have a 99 F150 with the 5.4 and the stock pump was starting to show its end of life. I got an remanufactured pump and originally got a line from Rock Auto. When I first put it on, it started dripping more than the last pump from the high pressure line to the pump. I took off the pump again and thought it just wasn’t tight enough so I tightened it more and put it back on. Leaked even worse from the high pressure line so I thought the line was toast and I got myself a Duralast line hoping 3rd time would be the charm. Put the new line on and sure enough, it’s leaking at a dripping rate. I’m out of ideas, I’ve removed the pump now 3 times and this is frustrating me. Is it the pump threads? I don’t know what to do and I can’t afford mechanic prices right now. Please someone tell me what I should do.

  • Girlfriends father wanting to sell me his old 1988 GMC 1500 as my first vehicle?

So I’m in the ballpark of being able to afford my own car. I am 17 years old and I’m looking to get a vehicle for me. I’ve been looking around craigslist and I have a 3-4K budget and I’m paying for everything (insurance, maintenance, etc). My girlfriend told me her dad has been trying to sell his old truck for awhile. It’s a 1988 GMC 1500 with a rebuilt 350 with a little over 15-20,000 miles on it. She says it needs work. Front right caliper needs to be rebuilt, new tires, new AC relay, but that’s all she said. It’s been sitting awhile so I’m sure it’ll need some more too and I’m really hoping the tranny was rebuilt with the engine. I understand it’s a 30 year old vehicle. This just happened to be a good opportunity. I have a buddy who has the exact same vehicle who knows his truck up and down and he offered to help me with any repair and give me some parts if I ever needed them. He’s going to come with me to look at this so he knows what to look out for This will be my first vehicle. Any advice or opinions?

  • Can you use 2 internal hard drives on one computer and swap files between both?

Is it possible to do this? I have a 256 SSD and a 500 mechanical hard drive and I want to install my games onto my 500 and play them off my ssd. I have a built system with a z97 chipset and I was wondering if this was even possible because before I had a 10 year old Dell XPS 630i and I was able to open and move files from each drive, the SSD and 500. The SSD had windows 10 and the hard drive had windows 7 and all worked well until I downloaded a game from steam from my ssd and chose the destination to be my regular hard drive and everything was fine until I rebooted and I got a blue screen from both drives, windows 7 and windows 10 and the error code was something about the ntfs file system being altered or something like that. Then again I was never able to get it out of raid because the XPS was only able to use RAID and installing Windows was always an issue on most drives for me so I’m wondering if that was the reason. Again my built setup is not a raid at all. I just want to know if I can install programs/games from my ssd to my 500 without any issue?

  • My car wobbles at high speed...?

So I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT and it has about 147,000 miles on it so by no means is it a new car. The thing is when I go about 55 and above on the highway, it starts to wobble quite a bit. Now I have like 3 different tires in it so not sure if that is the reason lol but I’m not sure if it’s something with suspension or not but it really concerns me when I drive to and from school. A lot of people say the cause could be tires but considering how old my car is, I’m starting to think it’s the suspension components. Thanks!

  • Full coverage for a 16 year old?

Ok so I am 15 years old, turning 16 in 6 months so I will be old enough to get a car. My parents (stepdad and mom) don't want me to get a car as a teenager because of insurance. My biological dad has always been trying to give me a car but my mom would say no. Recently my mom said I could have the car as long as maintenance, full coverage insurance and the actual car were covered. My dad originally had a 95 sc300 for me but what he had told me was that he thinks full coverage was for cars under 10 years old. But I have seen in some forums where people have their cars on full coverage well passed 10 years old, not classic cars but a regular Toyota Camry. Is their an age limit on your car for full coverage or does it depend on value? Thanks!
