  • election results:how big a factor is party funding?

do you think the Nov. election results would have been significantly different had the Republicans had the same amount of campaigning dollars? How big a difference does funding make in any election? Is it ultimately the qualities of the candidate ,or the amount of funding the candidate is able to procure for his or her campaign?

  • my GF and I are having a difference of opinion about color?

for the kitchen. we are redoing the kitchen. I have put in a black granite counter-top, and there is a hardwood floor of a medium brown color---everything else can be changed. She wants to do the walls in a dark terracotta red, and the cabinets in chocolate brown. we have a built-in eating nook and she wants to upholster the benches in a black and olive-green striped material.A lot of our artwork has this same shade of green in it. I want to paint the walls a tan color and also paint the cabinets chocolate brown. i would like to upholster the benches in a solid green (a little lighter than olive). she also wants to get a lot of small appliances that are red (blender, coffee machine, toaster, etc) , while i want to go with all chrome and black for the small appliances. for the major appliances, I want black and stainless, and she wants all black.

I think we will soon grow tired of the red because its too trendy and loud. She thinks my style is too subdued and boring. Advice?

  • need help with kitchen decor???

i recently installed a black slate counter-top in my kitchen as the first stage of a kitchen reno. my faucets are chrome and the sink is stainless-steel. the ceiling is made of metal embossed tiles but has been painted over numerous times (currently white). theres no room for a table and chairs but there is a small eating nook with a built-in bench on either side (I would like to upholster these benches--fabric ideas?) the walls are about 9' high. theres a 1 foot high baseboard and a large crown molding at the ceiling. the floor is a mid-brown (tobacco) colored hardwood which i dont want to cover. the cabinets are wood which has also been painted many times and are now a dingy beige color. (I believe they are the original cabinets). the house is a art-deco style circa 1922, so i would kind of like to be authentic to that style, but a few modern touches might be nice as well. I dont want anything fussy or cluttered or floral patterns. wall colors? cabinet colors? help

  • what color walls would look good with terra cotta tiles?

the fireplace is done in terra cotta tiles (including the hearth). there is a copper door over the fireplace opening. copper ceiling tiles, and dark wood panelling that goes about 2 1/2 feet up the wall from the floor. the floor is medium/dark hardwood. right now the walls are kind of a putty color (like the color of an old band aid) its real ugly--the previous owners did it. this color would also have to extend into the dining room because the two rooms are seperated only by an arch. also what color do you think the window treatment should be? the only furniture i have is a reddish-brown leather love seat and a big rattan wing-back armchair. i have 2 mission-style table lamps with amber glass shades. the hanging light fixture in the dining room is similar. whats some ideas for color and maybe furniture?

  • is a kitchen countertop made of porcelain ceramic tile a good idea?

i really like the looks of it (i have glossy black 8x8 tiles) but am wondering how practical and durable it will be in the long run. has anyone had good/bad experiences with this type of counter? also what is the best space between tiles--i've got conflicting info about this--one guy said 1/16 inch and another said 1/8 inch. and also, what color grout would be best to use with black tile--i dont reallly wanna have white grout.

  • LADIES, help me please? its my girlfriend's birthday?

and i want to do something special for her. im not talking about buying anything, im talking about doing something. something personal, something she'll really appreciate that will make her feel pampered.she's always so concerned with helping other people that i just want to do something that will make the day (and night) all about her. what kinds of things, ladies would you love to have done to/for you if you could have a whole evening of your heart's desire. what would be a perfect evening for you if your guy was to do anything you wanted? PS: last year, i filled the bathroom with candles and then brought in champagne and roses on a tray while i massaged her back and shoulders in the tub. so i kind of need a new idea for this year. help me, cause i need a woman's perspective on this--otherwise i'll probably just end up taking her out for dinner. PS: shes turning 30 next thurs.

which was asked or gone to wikipedia? makes you wonder why the asker didnt just go there themselves in the first place instead of going to the bother of posting a question here?
