Suppose you’re wrapping two gifts in boxes, one large and one small, both cubes.. Which will need proportionately more wrapping paper?

Ratio of length < ratio of surface area < ratio of volume.

The larger cube needs more paper proportionally to its length, but less proportionally to its volume.

We can also argue that the smaller one will need more paper relative to its surface area because the same length of extra wrapping paper needs to overlap the already-covered surface in order to get taped down.

Finally, if you cut paper from the same roll for both, wasting more excess width on the smaller package, the length of paper used will be proportional to the length of the cube.
