If you are asking about the USA then the law varies from state to state, but generally a juvenile who is convicted of a crime > cannot < be sentenced to actual life in prison.  In my state (Louisiana), the longest a juvenile can be sentenced to prison is to their 21st birthday.  Note that some states allow juveniles age 16/17 to be tried as an adult for a particularly heinous crime.
