My last question to Foofa et al before the site closes - Is the reality of living & working in California not as often made out? ?
Even if you have a good job and live in an area like Carlsbad, Oceanside, Malibu, Santa Barbara, Sausalito or Santa Rosa?
Or can the real California be found in Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton, Oakland and Sacramento, namely far from a paradise?
Finally, is it also possible to lose it all very quickly in California as they work long hours, only have ten days holiday a year to see and explore all of the other US states or wider world, and above all, most people are on these 'employed at will' contracts where they can be terminated at anytime for no reason, thus having no job security?
Los Angeles and San Francisco were always goals of mine, but are they really as good in practice, especially when I am not an IT or STEM person, but a UK and EU HR Professional?

Sadly, it's not just California that's like that. It's the entire U.S. This is what happens when crony capitalism is the dominant economic system and wages are artificially depressed to benefit the 0.1% super-wealthy. You think California cities like Fresno and Stockton are bad? You ought to tour our gulf coast red states. It's like being in Sierra Leone or Liberia. Worse than the third world!
