 As a retired military member I can assure you there is no such life insurance for spouses of retired members. 

Call your local military base.   Start asking questions.  

There probably isn’t anything there.   Prepare yourself for that.   

I think he is confusing some other programs with a life insurance policy.

He might have VGLI, which is a life insurance policy that would have paid her if he died.

If he is retired, then he could have had money taken out of his retirment check for SBP (survivors benefit plan).  Basically, they take money out of his check to pay a portion of his retirement each month to his spouse.  It doesn't work the other way around, and if he was paying into it, hopefully he has notified DFAS so that they stop taking money out of his check.

The only life insurance policy that I know of for family members that pays off on THEIR death is FSGLI.  However, that is a relatively new thing that came out long after he left the military and only applies to family members of current serving members (just like SGLI).  

Once he retired, any life insurance he was paying for his dependents ended.  

Tricare is medical insurance and that continued after retirement as long as he paid the premiums each year.  

Unless she served in the military herself and was getting a pension there would not be any military benefits for him. If he was in the military then she would be getting his benefits such as ID card, Tricare, etc..  A life insurance policy would be separate, on their own, there should be paperwork for it somewhere. Look at old bank records to see if there was a monthly deduction for it. 

Most likely he had VGLI which is life insurance on him if he dies before she does. There is also SBP which is a deduction from his retirement for her if he dies so it continues.  FSGLI is for family members of AD personnel only. 

As Daniel said make sure DFAS knows she passed so the deduction stops. It is lost forever now he will not get it back.
