Should we put a stop to the selling of second-hand books on Ebay?

Books are meant to be ONE person's experience, they're not meant to be bartered and shared around like some form of currency... that just cheapens the power of the experience. Should we ban the selling of second-hand books on Ebay so that people can just appreciate the feeling of owning a new copy of a book that's just theirs?

Update:

Personally, I think libraries should be closed too, but I suppose people with less money may need them... even then, I think libraries should have fresh copies of books for everyone who comes in, so they aren't just reading someone else's.

Great idea. Do you know where I can buy a new copy of the first edition of On the Origin of Species? At the original list price, of course.

Books are meant to be read, yes. But how many books have you actually re-read? I have books that I keep even though I may never read them again because they have special memories for me. The other books I get rid of for various reasons. If I didn't get rid of these books my house would be filled up with them. By selling or donating the books Ive read it will give other people a chance to read them, someone who may not be able to afford them new. I don't mind reading used books, especially if it's a book I think I won't be reading again.

Libraries are good to have because people who can't afford the internet can go there to use computers and rent dvd's if they can't afford cable.

No, and nobody cares what you think. You've been spamming this idiocy for years now. If you don't like used books, don't buy them or read them. What others do is not your concern. Why do idiots like you always waste time trying to convince normal people to adopt your idiotic views? Take some of the money you save on second hand books and see a psychiatrist.

Books are meant to be one person's experience?   That's just bizarre.  Why wouldn't anyone want a used book?  Books are usually read once or twice, and then they just sit around collecting dust.  Why not pass them around or sell them for people to read and enjoy?  Selling old books that people have no interest in anymore is a way of recycling, and with all the books on the planet, that's a good thing.

You know who cares about this even more than you do? Authors whose works are in print. And you know what they have to say about people reselling their books, about library acquisitions read by dozens or hundreds? "Excellent!"

They get paid their royalty on the first sale, as they should, but resales and library loans get them a much wider pool of potential sales for the next book, and the next, and the next. It's actually helpful to their careers if their books are resold or loaned to others.

Whelp, it's a good job nobody's told you about LIBRARIES yet or you'd have a nervous breakdown.

If you want to only buy new books - go ahead.

But I'm not sure your weird views and personal preference should police anyone else's.
