I ate at my Jr. High cafeteria in 7th grade for about the first month of the school year. Then, my Mom started making my lunch. The food there sucked.
The worst part of it was every couple weeks, they would have a day where the vegetable choice would be broccoli or brussels sprouts.....for kids in Jr. High. I think their pasta sauces were made by Union Carbide.
Then I got to high school. I hoped their cafeteria would be better. It wasn't. Just bigger. So, except for that first month, I brown-bagged it for my whole 6 years in secondary school.
Thankfully, I wasn't traumatized by cafeteria food in grade school. That was still the era of the neighborhood school, and we went home for lunch every day.

I had to take my own lunch until I got high school. Their hot lunch were not bad sometimes.
