From what I can find on google, the rule is up to the police commissioner for that area, but apparently the answer is either clear polish or none at all.

Wtf? Disney employees can only wear clear polish. No beards either. What a F_ _ked up world we live in. I had one beer and I am already drunk.

Each city/jurisdiction normally sets its own standards.  In Los Angeles, for example, nail polish is allowed but must be clear for uniformed officers.

Civilian workers and plain-clothes officers may wear colored polish but it must meet the department's guidelines for "professional" dress.  Multi-colored designs, glitter and other "accessories" are prohibited. This was from an LAPD detective I knew about 10 years ago, so standards may have changed since then.
