Ask yourself what modern nation does the most manufacturing and the most international shipping and you'll have your answer to the second question.

Great Britain built it. Egypt took it. I don't know for sure which has profited the most. It was Great Britain for a while, Great Britain owning it for the first century of its existence, but Great Britain being who paid for it to be built, not cheap, there's quite a bit of profit offset. Now it's been Egypt's for nigh on 70 years, though, so while I can't be sure, I'd think Egypt's profited the most by now.

Might it just be Egypt? They take revenue from every ship that uses their canal. All countries  ships that would normally use the Cape of Good Hope route choose the canal as it cuts off three weeks of travel time.
