Would this mean a person has it, or it's just a possibility??

It it were said..."there's a potential for pneumonia"., does that mean the person has the pneumonia, or that it's just a CHANCE of having it.

I'm thinking CHANCE.  If the word "consistent" were used, I'd think there was a strong possibility of having the pneumonia.

Thanks

Update:

"Anonymous" stated" there's a current condition that COULD develop into pneumonia". I'll argue it doesn't say it IS pneumonia...just COULD be, or there's the CHANCE it could be.

    The meaning of potential is;;;;

    Having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future(or over time)..

    It means the person could end up with pneumonia if not careful,, however if this person is on meds to treat the infection they will be fine...

    Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that involves the small air sacs and the tissue around them. A health care provider can tell with chest examination..

    Chance, scans can confirm a mass/infection in the lungs, which confirms pneumonia. Until confirmed, it is potential or might have.

    It means that there's a current condition that could develop into pneumonia, that's a common precursor to pneumonia and if not treated or handled correctly could very well lead to pneumonia.
