are they lying about the REAL unemployment numbers? how much so? and how and why exactly?   ?

    Unemployment only counts those still receiving unemployment compensation.  People who timed out yet still don't have jobs are not in the total.

    No, they are not lying about the real unemployment numbers, but the statistics do have limitations. You need to understand what the unemployment numbers are actually measuring. 

    Elaine M. is incorrect. Unemployment rates are not based on who receives unemployment benefits. 

    Unemployment numbers (in the United States) are reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    Who is they?  You didn't say.  And unemployment numbers for where or what industry?  You didn't say that either.
