Why do humans think in black/white?

Up/down, right/wrong, good/evil, guilty/innocent...I could go on forever. Is hypocrisy a hallmark of humanity? Can it be changed?

Update:

I do not mean indecisiveness. Do humans think like machines (in 0's and 1's): off/on. That it is difficult for many to comprehend a dual nature of reality (if it exists), perhaps is it our nature to always prefer one, over the other? Do humans have the ability to think in gray, not indecisively, but to accept both truths/opinions? Or are they simply not capable, as not having reached that higher evolutionary tier of neutrality?

Update 2:

Is it the structure of the brain and our limited capabilities, or our conditioning over time? Recently it has been found that older brains still retain the ability to form new neural connections; it it our society then, that encourages inflexibility? Does time also reinforce existing prejudices?

Because a lot of people are judgmental. I think they need to settle things in their mind and hate thinking in shades of grey. With most things there is a lot more to the story.

Well thinking in gray only makes you wishy washy.   I love a mind that thinks in black and white.   It's a decisive mind.
