This is an inquiry so emotional, so close to home, that it can't be truly replied.
I've lived in the two urban areas for some time. Both have their qualities and shortcomings on pretty much every metric you want to gauge.
On personal satisfaction alone, Berlin wins by a mile; there's no challenge.
On climate, Berlin wins once more, not so natural, but rather it wins.
On unadulterated, crude energy, NY doesn't start to perspire to get the title.
On admittance to stuff, you can purchase, don't attempt; NY is one of the best 3 urban communities on the planet to be a bad-to-the-bone shopper of pretty much anything.
On the nature of accessible food sources at the stores, Berlin sulks the floor with NY.
On the nature of arranged food at cafés, NY sulks the floor with Berlin; another non-challenge.

The Geography section is ELSEWHERE.It helps that Berlin ISN'T constrained by a major river, a sound, and the Atlantic Ocean...
