my sister lived in elgin for several years. she was married and lived in a townhome. so "affordable" can greatly differ depending on the individual.

If you want to get further details, there are dozens of web sites that show statistics on crime, home values, education, etc. by city. Just use any search engine: for instance, "Streamwood IL crime" or "Streamwood IL housing statistics." I got dozens of hits within 10 seconds. Is that so difficult?In addition, you can contact real estate agents or chambers of commerce in the area for further details. Ever hear of a telephone?
